About the event

Have you ever wondered why loon chicks ride on their parents’ backs? Or wondered what loons are saying with those eerie calls in the night? Do loons mate for life? What threats do they face when they are on our lakes to nest and raise their young?

The Loon Preservation Committee has worked with the “Appalachian Mountain Club Paddlers" to organize a guided loon paddle on Swains Lake, Saturday July 30th, to answer all these questions and more! The trip will begin with a brief talk on shore to discuss paddling safety and basic loon biology. Participants will then take to the water with an LPC staff member to observe loons (from a respectful distance of course). Their behavior and vocalizations will be discussed, and you will delve deeper into topics relating to loon biology.

To ensure the best experience for all participants, attendance will be capped at 10 people. To learn more, including how to RSVP, email LPC Biologist Caroline Hughes at: chughes@loon.org
